Don’t worry.’ You know, ‘Let it be.’ I woke up and I remembered the dream, and I thought, ‘Well, that’s a great idea.’ And I then sat down and wrote the song using the feeling from that dream and of my mum coming to me in the dream. And she sort of said to me, she said, ‘Let it be.’ And I remember quite clearly her saying, ‘Let it be,’ and ‘It’s going to be OK. But I had a dream where my mother, who had been dead at that point for about 10 years, came to me in the dream and it was as if she could see that I was troubled. And I went to bed one night and had a kind of restless night. I think I was getting, like, a little bit over the top with – getting pretty tired and pretty wasted. In an interview with The Salt Lake Tribune, Paul McCartney explained that the idea for “Let it be” came from a dream of his late mother The Rolling Stone magazine ranked “Let It Be” at #20 on their ‘ The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time‘ list, an honor received by The Beatles for almost two dozen of their songs. “Let It Be” was also a major commercial success, selling over 2 million units in the US and over 500,000 copies in the UK. In the home country, the song peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also reached #1 in several countries such as New Zealand, Canada, and Australia. However, the song did reach #1 eventually. “Let It Be” debuted at #6 on Billboard Hot 100, the highest debut for a song at the time.
